Road Traffic Offences

The threat of losing your licence due to an accumulation of penalty points, is likely to be a matter of great concern for you and your family, as it may well involve the threat of losing your job. You can be disqualified under the “totting up” provisions for up to 6 months, if you reach a total of 12 penalty points.

Facing a risk of a period of disqualification, even for just a number of weeks, is also capable of causing serious disruption to your life and work commitments. This is the possible sentence for high speeding offences. Belinda Smith who practised criminal law for the first ten years of her career, has maintained the road traffic part of this specialism.  You may decide that you would like to be supported at a Court hearing in which case Belinda will represent you in either a plea of mitigation or a contested trial, as appropriate.

Professional representation is strongly advised in “totting” cases as pleas of mitigation due to exceptional hardship are often successful.

Drink driving is a serious matter which in the usual course of events is not challenged by the Defendant and which inevitably leads to a year’s disqualification.   Belinda will advise you about the likely sentence, depending on the level of alcohol recorded and will support you in a plea of mitigation at Court if required.

Belinda will give you initial telephone advice so you can decide whether you need her professional assistance in any road traffic matter you face.
